Overview
As a member of Insomnia you are expected to know and follow the rules below at all times. All rules apply to all Insomnia Minecraft servers, the Insomnia Discord server and the Insomnia website. Insomnia is a community that is safe and fun for everyone, and we can only achieve this with your support!
The Short Version
Rules aren’t here to stop you having fun. They’re here so nobody can spoil anyone else’s.
- Be good to each other. Be kind and respectful; no hate speech, harassment or drama. This is an 18+ community.
- Play fair. No cheats, x-ray, duping or alt accounts. Performance mods and shaders are fine.
- Leave other people’s stuff alone. No stealing, no griefing. Not sure if something’s claimed? Ask in Discord.
- Give others room. Don’t build on top of someone, and don’t claim more land than you’ll use.
- PvP only when everyone agrees.
- Keep chat friendly. No spam, ads, NSFW content or needless pinging.
- Go easy on the server. Huge mob farms and redstone can cause lag; ask and we will help you optimise.
- Your account, your responsibility. Whatever happens on it counts as you.
That’s really it. The full rules below explain the details, so if something ever comes up, we can point to exactly what we mean.
The Full Rules
Be respectful. Our community is a diverse bunch, and we expect everyone to treat each other with kindness, dignity and respect.
Zero tolerance for hate speech or bigotry. Discrimination, slurs and hate speech are not tolerated, whether they target someone’s race, gender, sexuality, religion or any other part of who they are. That includes jokes, usernames and private messages.
Act like an adult. InsigniaCraft is an 18+ community. Settle disagreements maturely: no name-calling, passive aggression or drama.
Respect privacy. Don’t go looking for personal information about other players. If someone shares real-life details with you, don’t pass them on without their clear permission.
Honor chat status and streaming etiquette. If someone has set themselves to Do Not Disturb, leave them be. If someone is streaming, keep your behaviour appropriate: no disruptive messages or griefing, so they can create content in peace.
Respect boundaries. If someone tells you something you did makes them uncomfortable, stop straight away, without arguing or questioning it. Carrying on after a warning can get you removed. If someone crosses your boundaries, report it to an admin.
Respect people’s time. Most of us have busy lives. Don’t spam messages, push people to play, or take up more of someone’s time and energy than they want to give. Everyone gets to enjoy the game on their own terms.
Voice and text channels. Keep voice and text chat welcoming for everyone. Don’t talk over people or dominate the conversation, and keep off-topic and NSFW jokes out of the general channels.
Constructive feedback only. Only give criticism when someone asks for it, and keep it constructive. Don’t knock someone’s build, idea or way of playing unless they’ve asked what you think.
No harassment or targeting. Repeatedly picking on a specific player counts as harassment, even when it’s subtle or “just a joke”.
Cheating is anything that gives you an unfair advantage over other players. That includes, but isn’t limited to:
- Hacked clients, such as movement or PvP hacks
- X-ray, whether through mods, resource packs or vanilla glitches
- Duplicating items (TNT duping is the exception)
- Macros and autoclickers
- Alt or second accounts
- The printer function of Schematica or Litematica
- Using Replay Mod to look into areas you couldn’t otherwise access
- Exploiting vanilla bugs or glitches for personal gain
What is allowed: performance mods such as Sodium, OptiFine or Forge/Fabric performance packs, and resource packs and shaders that don’t give a gameplay advantage. Our own modpacks on the Mods page are fine too.
Taking anything that belongs to another player is not allowed. Remember TINPOTS: Theft Is Not Permitted On This Server!
Don’t take items from any area or container that:
- is part of someone else’s property,
- isn’t clearly marked as public, or
- isn’t obviously part of a generated structure.
Think something of yours was stolen? Contact a moderator or admin. Staff can find out who did it and roll back anything that was taken.
Griefing, deliberately damaging property that other players use, is not allowed. Changing blocks that belong to someone else without their permission counts as griefing.
Not sure whether a structure or area belongs to someone? Ask a staff member before you change anything.
Think you’ve been griefed? Contact a moderator or admin. Staff can find out who did it and roll back the damage.
We don’t use a land claiming plugin, to keep things less restrictive. That means it’s up to you to be considerate about how close you build to others. If you think you might be too close to someone, you probably are. Builds that crowd another player will be asked to move.
Mark your claims clearly, so other players know whose land they’re on. And don’t claim a huge area you won’t actually use: it shuts others out of parts of the world. Very large unused claims may be reclaimed by staff.
Inactive claims: if a claim’s owner hasn’t been online for more than three months and another player wants to build there, the claim may be removed. Staff keeps a copy of every removed build. Expecting to be away for a while? Let staff know and we’ll work something out.
Our motto, “Be Excellent”, matters most when you’re talking with other players. InsigniaCraft is a diverse community where players of all backgrounds and identities should be able to have fun and feel safe. Chat rules include, but aren’t limited to:
- No spamming, such as repeated messages or excessive caps
- No harassment, hate speech, or excessive trolling or negativity
- No advertising
- No excessive swearing
- No sexual or provocative comments aimed at other players
- No NSFW content
- No needless pinging of other players
- Respect the privacy of everyone in the community
PvP, fighting other players, is only allowed when everyone involved has agreed to it.
Builds that put an unnecessary load on the server aren’t allowed, and staff may remove or change them to reduce lag. Common causes are large groups of mobs or other entities, enormous redstone contraptions, chunk loaders and inefficient redstone circuits.
If a build turns out to be straining the server, staff will work with its owner to see whether it can be changed to run lighter.
Your Minecraft account is responsible for everything done with it, no matter who is playing. Staff acts on accounts, not on the people behind them. Only let people you trust use your account, and if you suspect someone else is using it without your permission, change your password!
